Description Provider
Excellent maintenance no longer takes place in isolation in the factory hall, but is an interdisciplinary department that works together with all production areas and management. In this way, maintenance actively contributes to value creation and turns from a cost center into a profit center.
The Production Excellence Network wants to break down the traditional silos of thinking and act as a connecting link between maintenance and production.

-
profile:
The Production Excellence Network sees itself as a platform for establishing the topic of maintenance at the top decision-making level in the company and thus gaining the appropriate appreciation.
Experts from industry, business, research and the media have come together for this purpose. With intensive educational work with studies, specialist articles, user examples and lectures, they want to give this topic the visibility it needs. -
Company description:
Maintenance plays a key role in times of digitalization and automation. Data has always been collected here, which is now needed for process optimization and an effective Industry 4.0 strategy. Interdisciplinary cooperation with all affected departments makes maintenance the backbone of the company.
By integrating smart maintenance concepts, improved plant availability, efficiency, sustainability and cost optimization can be achieved. But why do many companies still see maintenance as a necessary evil that only causes costs? Maintenance engineers often encounter rejection from their superiors when it comes to necessary investments, according to the motto: It has worked well for years! In doing so, they overlook the opportunities to strengthen their competitiveness by investing in innovative technologies.

Maintenance meets C-level: cost driver or value creation partner?
C-Level asks Einstein: What is the best organization for maintenance? The possible answer would surprise all production managers!
It is not known whether this or a similar question was ever asked to Albert Einstein. However, I could imagine the following answer, derived from one of his most famous quotes:
💎 "To best organize your maintenance, you as the C-level production manager only have to make one decision:
Is production in my company a friendly place or a hostile place? Everything else follows from that!"
The possible consequences become clear if we develop this idea further.
😀 You decide for: Production is a friendly place and you are guided by the following basic conviction in all organizational questions:
“Efficient production processes are the basis of our company’s success. My job is to create the best possible conditions for this.
Only machines that run make money. Our qualified maintenance staff ensure that processes run smoothly. Every process disruption is an opportunity for a continuous improvement process.”
💣 … or you decide: Production is a hostile place!
“The high production costs endanger our competitiveness. A major cost driver is the constant process disruptions in our production and the excessive maintenance costs. I have to make the organizational failure in production transparent in order not to jeopardize my career.
To be on the safe side, I set up a detailed reporting system and tight cost management.”
This may be somewhat exaggerated today.
But it is precisely these kinds of questions and many others about the future of maintenance that we have addressed in our Production Excellence Network at the adesso SE premises in Dortmund. Thanks to Jens Reißenweber, Thomas Heller, Bernhard Kurpicz, Lothar Schmiegel, Marcel Hahn, Benjamin Brockmann and Stefan Weinzierl for the creative answers.
💎 I made this decision over 20 years ago. As production manager in automobile manufacturing. After that, fundamental organizational decisions were very simple for me: Does the current work organization, shop floor management or problem-solving process contribute to making our production a friendlier place?

Maintenance is a pure cost driver
That's true if you don't prepare yourself for the future and don't put maintenance in the boss's chair!
to the article
The modern production landscape is facing a multitude of challenges. Demographic change, de-fossilization, digitization/AI and de-coupling are just some of the current issues that are forcing companies to continuously question and adapt their strategies.
In this blog post, we look at the future of production and maintenance and show how important it is to prepare yourself for the future. A particular focus is on the often underestimated role of maintenance, the minimization of administrative waste, the complexity of plant technology and the importance of production partnerships. -
Smart Maintenance as a growth driver
Modern maintenance plays a crucial role in the success of companies

Not only Economics Minister Habeck and other political figures see this year's Hannover Messe as a "driving force for the beginning of the economic upturn" in Germany and Europe. This optimism is based on the increasing digitalization of production through the use of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud-based IoT solutions and automation. This development is also driven by the increasing demand for eco-efficient solutions for resource optimization and sustainable production.
Since the Hannover Messe functions more as an image and networking event due to its broad spectrum, it offered ample opportunity to discuss the strategic aspect of the solutions presented. Numerous exhibitors confirmed that German industry, including medium-sized companies, has finally recognized the need for digitalization and that demand for corresponding solutions is increasing. As a result, providers are expanding their portfolios and increasingly offering digital components and services.
